Who we are

KEY (Keep Educating Yourself) academy is a 100% project based, 21st-century nursery and school, offering a new model of education for children from 18 months to 18 years old.

Through our local and global network of co-learners (our term for ‘teachers’), subject matter experts, mentors and industry leaders, we are revolutionising the conventional approach to education.

Located in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, we have replaced memorisation and testing with project based learning which is real, relevant, meaningful, and applicable not only to the world that we live in today, but the world our children will inherit.

At KEY academy, we develop tailored and emergent project based curricula to help children think critically, explore deeply, challenge themselves and learn from their failures and successes.

A glimpse into our world

We believe students learn best when they can see how their learning connects to the real world. That’s why we invite industry/business professionals - known as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) - to work with our students. Whether it’s an architect, scientist, artist or entrepreneur, these experts help bring classroom projects to life, offering real insight and sparking deeper understanding.

At KEY academy, learning continues long after the school day ends. Through KEY@home, our students engage in thoughtfully designed take-home activities that extend classroom concepts into the real world - bridging school, home, and community.

Each KEY@home task is tailored to the individual student: whether it’s a concept they’re strengthening or a topic where their curiosity has sparked, the goal is to stretch their thinking and deepen their engagement.

Last term, one of our Buds (ages 7 - 9 years) used her camera to document Apapa - offering a beautiful glimpse into her world and how she sees her community.
